He received his art education at Boise State University, finishing a B.A. in art with an emphasis on painting and drawing. At graduate level, he supplemented it with an additional two and a half years of studies. He has a thorough knowledge of Art History, and history of painting in particular fascinates him. He has also studied Engineering for three years, Business for two years, and received a graduate degree in Counseling.
" I feel like a renaissance-man, but my love is painting." He says. Furthermore, he adds: " I went to Boise State University because I wanted to be living in a quiet town. It amazes me that many people including my friends mistake Idaho for Iowa or Ohio, even nowadays. Nevertheless, I think this little town and its university had a great Art dept.
I had many great professors in the 80's, and in the 70's prior to the start of my art education. However, two Art professors should be mentioned here. My main drawing teacher, Mr. James Russell, and my painting teacher, Mr. John Killmaster. Mr. Russell was instrumental in my art career due to his constant encouragement. Mr Killmaster who in my eyes happens to be a great artist deserves a worldly recognition, not only for his enamel work, but also for his paintings. With these two great artists, I went on to build up my spirit and technical knowledge."
He goes on: " Also I should mention Mr. Kober (Sculpture), a fine artist, expert and versatile in many sculpture media. Mr Taylor (Ceramic) who taught me that cermaic is not just pottery! Mr Oravez (print-making) a great artist and a capable craftsman. Mr. Tye who was fundamental in teaching me classical drawing. And the last but not the least, my Art History professor, Dr. Felix Heap who got me interested in the subject with his vast knowledge of different periods. Of course, I met these fine professors in the 80's, perhaps they are retired now. Here, I would like to state that I am forever in their debt for giving me a solid art eduaction. I am also thankful and greatful to my other professors whose names I did not list here." ...
